City to seek feedback on new dog park in Huntingdale

A new fenced dog park is being planned for Reserve F in Huntingdale, with the City of Gosnells confirming that community consultation will begin in the coming months to finalise the design and ensure it meets local needs.

The proposal, which forms part of the City’s broader Sutherlands Park Master Plan, has received $100,000 in State Government funding and is expected to be constructed later this year. The dog park would be located at the corner of Gay Street and Balfour Street, near the Huntingdale Junior Football Club.

The City said the site was selected due to its size, existing irrigation, nearby car park and limited conflict with other planned infrastructure in the area.

While the location has not yet been finalised, the City said alternative sites within the park were limited. The corner of Gay Street and Southern River Road, suggested by some residents, is earmarked for future sports fields.

Southern River MLA Terry Healy, who secured State funding for the project, said he invited public feedback via a survey in May and passed all responses to the City.

Huntingdale resident Paul McClumpha, who lives near the proposed site, said he is concerned about traffic congestion, lack of parking, and the park’s proximity to homes.

“There are cars going up and down Gay Street all parts of the day and night. Why add more to a small corner of Huntingdale?” he said.

Mr McClumpha said the corner of Southern River Road and Gay Street would be a better option, as it has more space and existing parking through a nearby sporting facility.

The City said a traffic assessment is underway and additional parking options are being considered as part of the design. Community consultation will be held through its ‘YourSay Gosnells’ platform before the final plan is confirmed.
