The City of Canning will launch its first ever Art Studio Trail this May.

It’ll be a weekend of celebrating creativity, colour and community.

Taking place on May 17 and May 18, the free, self-guided tour will showcase the work of more than 30 artists across 11 venues throughout the city.

Visitors will have a unique chance to explore creative spaces and connect directly with local talent, from private studios to community art hubs.

According to Mayor Patrick Hall, “Art plays a vital role in realising our vision to be a welcoming and thriving City.”

He added, “As well as capturing our imagination, art has the potential to engage and transform communities, enrich culture and stimulate economic growth.”

Mayor Hall said the event was a celebration of the creative community in Canning.

“We have some of Perth’s most talented artists right on our doorstep and I look forward to them opening their studio doors and creative spaces and sharing their inspiration with local and visiting art lovers,” he said.

Open from 10am to 4pm each day, the trail offers behind-the-scenes look at how artists work, with opportunities to chat with creators, learn about their processes, and even buy or commission original pieces.

The Canning Art Studio Trail is a pilot project aimed at boosting cultural development and supporting local artists. Inspired by successful trails in neighbouring areas, the City hopes it will become a much-loved event on the local arts calendar.
