Candidate hits the road

Mr Meotti dropped by The Examiner to show off his eye-catching new ride.

Voters might spot something unusual on WA roads this week; a car that looks like a hemp crop.

It’s the “Hemp-Mobile.”

Legalise Cannabis Party WA Senate candidate Jason Meotti revealed the vehicle on Tuesday, announcing his plan to drive it all the way to Canberra as part of his election campaign.

Mr Meotti said the eye-catching ride represents more than just a campaign gimmick.

He said he believes industrial hemp could be the answer to several major issues, including the cost-of-living crisis, housing shortages, and climate change.

“Planting hemp actually helps the environment by locking carbon into the soil,” he said. “Even if that carbon is released later, we still come out ahead.”

According to Mr Meotti, hemp could provide renewable fuel for mining and transport, materials for low-cost housing, and bring jobs back to regional WA.

But right now, federal laws treat hemp like a narcotic.

“It’s simply ridiculous,” he said.

“One of my first acts as Senator for WA will be to legalise industrial hemp.”

Mr Meotti said he plans to take the Hemp-Mobile to pre-poll locations across the state, encouraging voters to stop by, learn more, or give a supportive toot if they pass him on the road.

“West Australians have the chance to do two great things with one vote,” he said.

“If you vote one for Legalise Cannabis Party, you’re choosing a Senator who will fight for you, not answer to someone in the Eastern States, and you’re sending a clear message to Parliament: it’s time to just legalise it.”
