Kelmscott Bulldogs walked away with wins at most of their games over the weekend as they played out round nine on home turf at John Dunn Memorial Oval in Kelmscott.
The men were halfway through the season with another nine rounds to go while the women only have seven more rounds until finals.
Women’s C1
The women shaped up for another Bulldog win on Saturday morning against the Cockburn Cobras.
Bulldogs won 38 to one, with two goals kicked in the first and second quarter, and one goal kicked in the third quarter.
With five goals pocketed for the game, the Bulldogs also scored eight points.
The Cobras only managed to secure one point in the first quarter.
Bulldog Anna-Shae Michael kicked three goals, while Louise Knitter and Jorja Sheppard both kicked one each.
Captain Britlee Eades celebrated her 50th game for the club at the home ground clash Saturday, with junior club graduate Shaya Yarran selected among a 32-player squad to represent WA at the upcoming 2025 Marsh AFL National Championships.
Bulldog women’s sit second on the ladder, only four points behind Kwinana on 28 with seven wins and one loss. The women’s team has won every game this season apart from the round two clash against Kwinana.
They next play Forrestdale at William Skeet Oval in Forrestdale, before playing at home against Roleystone for round 13.
Bulldogs have a bye during round 12 to give the women a well-deserved week of rest and recovery.
Men’s C4
Men’s C4 Bulldogs secured a win last weekend against Manning in a 67 to 45 final score.
With 10 goals and seven points secured, Manning was no match for the mighty Bulldogs who only scored six goals and nine points.
Bryce Ugle and Leonard Blurton both kicked two goals each, with one goal each scored by Aidan Sheppard, Callum Collard, Justin Lewis, Beaudine Winmar, Brett Eades, and Angus Yarren.
The Bulldogs started off strong, kicking five goals in the first quarter, followed by three in the second and two in the fourth quarter to end the game on another win.
Men’s C4 Bulldogs also sit second on the ladder, four points behind Kenwick with 32 points from eight wins and one loss.
This weekend’s round 10 clash against Trinity Aquinas is also on home ground, who the men haven’t played since round one where the Bulldogs were victorious in a 102 to 47 thumping.
Men’s Reserve C4
Bulldogs Reserves had an unlucky loss on Saturday against Manning on home turf in a 51 to 54 loss.
Both Bulldogs and Manning secured eight goals each, but Bulldogs kicked three points while Manning kicked six to end the game on a narrow and unfortunate Bulldog loss.
Jacob Bromfield once again secured the most goals for Kelmscott, kicking four while one goal each was kicked by David Mckelvie, former Reserves captain Perry Borger, Brendan Edwards, and new ruckman Aden Hannaford kicked his first goal. Reserves are bottom of the ladder with four points from one win during the season and eight losses.
In another home ground match this Saturday, Bulldogs take on Trinity Aquinas who they lost to in round one of the season.
Men’s Brett Jones Colts
Bulldogs Colts secured another win for the club on Saturday’s clash against University Colts. With seven goals and 10 points, the Bulldogs won 52 to 32 against University’s five goals and two points.
University was up in the first quarter kicking one goal, but the Bulldogs soon brought it back kicking two goals in the second quarter and one in the third.
With both teams on three goals at the end of third quarter, the Bulldogs had the upper hand with an additional nine points.
Kelmscott soon brought the power to kick four more goals in the fourth quarter, with an unlucky miss of another goal turning into 10 points.
Noah Soper, who has also been selected in the North of the river vs South of the river colts clash tomorrow night at Gosnells Recreation Ground kicked two goals on Saturday, while other Bulldogs Trenton Collard, Braydan Seelander, Leonard Blurton, Dyllon Hansen and Israel Bucktin kicked one each for the team’s win.
Bulldog Colts also play against Trinity Aquinas on home ground this Saturday, sitting fourth on the ladder with 24 points.
The Colts have won six games this season and have lost three.
All Abilities
The All Abilities had an unfortunate loss on the back of the previous week’s win as they took on Kingsway for round seven for the MND big freeze charity game.
Bulldogs All Abilities played at Kingsway Reserve in Madeley with a final score of 27 to 49.
The Bulldogs walked away with four goals and three points and some injured players, while Kingsway kicked seven goals and seven points for the win, the first against Kelmscott since 2022, which secured Kingsway the Keith Conrnthwaite Memorial Cup.
The first quarter ended with an even score of one point for each team, but unfortunately for the Bulldogs, Kingsway pulled ahead in the second quarter kicking four goals.
Bulldogs Benjamin Koelen, Fraser Kickett Jr, Garth Rodger and Peter Christoff each kicked a goal on Saturday.
The Bulldogs are third on the ladder for All Abilities with 16 points, only four points behind both Kingsway and Willetton who are tied first.
The Bulldogs have won four games and lost two after round seven, leaving them full of hope as the 14-round season meets the halfway point.
This Saturday’s Bulldog game for the All Abilities is played on home ground at John Dunn Memorial Oval, at 9:30am against High Wycombe where the team will wear the specially themed jumpers for club history and mental health awareness.
