The boys in blue and white have started the football season on a high, with the Kelmscott Bulldogs’ reserves and league teams securing comfortable wins at the weekend.

Not even heavy rainfall was enough to deter the reserves team in its game against the Midland Tigers, with Reece Wardlow coaching the boys to a 22-point win – 11.9 (75) to 7.11 (53).

Player Clinton Wilkes did much of the heavy lifting for the dogs, scoring four goals for the side, while Malcolm Yarran celebrated his return by scoring two goals.

Reece Wardlow, Nigel Wilkes, Jack Perryman and James Matthew scored one goal each.

The league team managed to finish the day with 17 goals in a row, helping it to secure a whopping 58-point lead over the Balga Bombers – 18.18 (126) to 9.9 (63).

Some impressive coaching by Ray Witt saw the boys remain on task despite the wind, rain and thunder, with Neil Krakouer, Gavin Williams, Jesse Ruckwood, Jack Norman and Corey Hansen named among the best on ground.

The Bulldogs’ 2019 centenarian goal kicker Max Websdale led the charge with four goals, followed by Jesse Ruckwood with three and two each for Basil Thorne, Wesley Thorne, Corey Hansen and sharp shooter Kyle Collard.

This Thursday night will be an exciting time for the club, with a new club jumper set to be unveiled.

The original Bulldogs logo was unveiled in early 1976 by past life member Trevor Riley and featured on the first recorded Year.

The League team held onto last year’s winning Grand Final set, but will wear the new sponsored jumpers this coming Sunday.

The Bulldogs will play at John Dunn this weekend, with the reserves going head-to-head against Warwick/Greenwood from midday and the league set to face off against Brighton from 2.30pm.
