The Kelmscott Bulldogs succeeded in most of their Saturday games this week following the mid-season bye, setting them up for success as the 2025 season plays its halfway game this Saturday.
All Abilities
In the Saturday morning all abilities league, the Kelmscott Bulldogs Division A seniors mixed team played against Curtin University Wesley at Wyong Reserve.
Despite having the home advantage, Curtin proved to be no match for the almighty Bulldogs in a 34 to 31 Kelmscott win.
The Bulldogs scored five goals and four points, while Curtin Uni scored four goals and hit seven points.
Eliza Bain, who usually can’t be tackled, succeeded an attempted tackle from Curtin to keep possession of the ball.
Kelmscott Rooke Mooney didn’t let his tiny size and mobility struggles hold him back as he got amongst the footy clashes and equal worthy handball to his mates. Warren Gregson propped himself up on the goal post from his wheelchair but hit the deck hard several times in the chase for the football. Finally in the third quarter was rewarded for his efforts as he succeeded a goal through.
Bulldogs next play for round seven on Saturday June 14 against Kingsway at Kingsway Reserve, before playing a home game the following week at John Dunn Memorial Park against High Wycombe.
The Kelmscott Bulldogs are tied first in the All Abilities Integrated League with Kingsway and Willetton.
All three teams are on 16 points at the end of round six, with four wins and one loss each.
Women’s C1
The Kelmscott Bulldogs C1 division won 20 to 18 against Kalamunda at Ray Owen Reserve in Lesmurdie for the round eight game.
Kalamunda women’s scored two goals and six points, with Bulldogs bringing in the win with three goals and two points.
This was the Bulldog women’s fifth consecutive win this season, after losing only round two against Kwinana.
Bulldog players Mahalia Rukuata, Ashley McHenry and Hayley McHenry each scored one goal.
The women sit second on the ladder behind Kwinana on 24 points with six wins and one loss.
They next play against Cockburn Cobras at home in John Dunn Memorial Park this Saturday June 14, where women’s captain Britlee Eades will celebrate her 50-club game milestone.
Men’s C4 reserve
Men’s C4 reserve lost in a 51-point thrashing against Fremantle CBC at Morris Buzacott Reserve in Kardinya in the 43 to 94 final score.
Bulldogs scored seven goals and one point, but it wasn’t quite enough to bring home the round eight game, with Fremantle scoring 13 goals and 16 points.
Bulldogs’ player Jacob Bromfield carried scoring all seven of the team’s goals, making his season total to date 22 goals scored.
At the half time break, the Bulldogs were bitting at short lead by Fremantle. A few quick goals at the start of the third and CBC had looked to run off from the Bulldogs, holding a lead to the end.
Kelmscott next play Manning this Saturday afternoon, June 14 on home ground at John Dunn Memorial Park.
Bulldogs men’s C4 reserve league sit bottom of the ladder with only one win and seven losses.
However, with 10 rounds left of this season, they still have a chance to redeem themselves.
Men’s C4
Kelmscott Bulldogs scored another victory during the men’s C4 with a 34-point victory against Fremantle’s score of 50.
The Bulldogs won the Round 9 game with 14 goals, leading them to win with a final score of 84, while Fremantle scored seven goals and eight points.
Bulldogs’ Callum Collard kicked four goals, while Drew Robinson kicked two and Bryce Ugle kicked one. Kicking seven goals for the victory was Angus Yarren, who has scored 28 goals across six games this season.
Second on the ladder only behind Kenwick, the Bulldogs sit on 28 points with seven wins and one loss.
Bulldogs C4 also play home ground this Saturday against Manning for the June 14 round nine clash.
Men’s Brett Jones Colts
Kelmscott men’s Brett Jones Colts won 73 to 45 in Saturday’s clash against Fremantle, at Morris Buzacott Reserve in Kelmscott.
Bulldogs kicked 11 goals and seven points to win against Fremantle’s six goals and nine points.
Tall forward Noah Soper was unmatched by the Fremantle CBC defenders as he kicked four goals for Bulldogs, while Trenton Collard kicked three, Israel Bucktin kicked two, and Leonard Blurton and Benjamin Ryder each scored one goal.
Bulldogs Colts are tied fourth on the ladder with University and Kenwick, each with 20 points from five wins and three losses.
The Brett Jones Colts round nine game is at John Dunn Memorial Park between Kelmscott Bulldogs and University on June 14 at 11:15am.
