The Serpentine Jarrahdale Men’s Shed, known as ‘The Shed in the Scrub’, may be looking to update their name to ‘The Sheds in the Scrub’ after officially opening their latest asset, a new vehicle storage shed.
The 6m x 14m shed, along with a new front-end loader and a pallet worth of tools and equipment, was funded thanks to an $80,000 election commitment from local member and shed patron Hugh Jones, who dropped by on Tuesday to check out how the new kit was being put to use.
“The SJ Men’s Shed are a fantastic bunch and their membership continues to grow year on year.
“Last year they built a disability mounting ramp for the SJ Adult Rider’s Club and they’re always getting stuck into new projects that benefit the community.
“I knew the money would be well-spent and support the members in the good work they do,” Mr Jones said.
Last year the SJ Men’s Shed officially opened their new workshop extension thanks to a grant from Lotterywest.
Despite its name, the SJ Men’s Shed welcomes both men and women who regularly get together to socialise, build skills and work on projects from educational toys to picnic tables.
