More than 85 hectares of land were burnt following a deliberately lit fire on Monday.

More than 50 firefighting appliances were deployed to battle a deliberately lit bushfire in Serpentine Jarrahdale in the early hours of Monday, a Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) spokesperson said.

The incident comes just days after three separate bushfires were reported across Serpentine Jarrahdale at the start of last week, heightening community concern as the region moves deeper into the high-risk fire season.

The spokesperson said triple zero calls were received at 12.40am, with first responders arriving at the scene within 10 minutes of the initial report.

“Crews faced against challenging conditions, with 40-50km/h east, south easterly winds in the area, fuelling the fire’s spread,” DFFES said.

Local brigades on scene included the Serpentine bushfire brigade (BFB), Gosnells BFB, Oakford BFB as well as the Kwinana and Roleystone volunteer fire and rescue service.

Air support was also called in, with two helitaks and three water bombers assisting ground crews as the fire front expanded overnight.

By 2.15pm on Monday, the incident had been downgraded to a monitor conditions bushfire advice.

Firefighters remained on site strengthening containment lines and monitoring for flare-ups.

Authorities said the fire was stationary and the immediate threat had eased but urged residents to remain cautious in the area.

“People should take care in the area,” the DFES spokesperson said.

“Stay alert for potential dangers such as smoke and fallen trees and power poles and be aware of emergency services and other support personnel working in the area.”

The blaze is estimated to have burnt about 87 hectares, with investigators deeming the cause deliberate.
