A free barbecue, community stalls and a focus on safety drew more than 130 residents to John Okey Davis Park on September 13.

The Street Meet and Greet ran from 11am to 1pm, with local groups, councillors and police joining residents for a casual gathering.

The Gosnells Sparkling Jewels Red Hatters were on hand to ensure locals had a great day.

Organiser Tracey said the event was about encouraging people to connect face to face. “A change is needed” she said. “People want to talk to people and discuss their issues and re-engage in society and feel a sense if belonging and having a voice in their community.”

The Armadale Police Ranger ran the barbecue and helped clean up afterwards, while local groups, including Gosnells Menshed, Sparkling Jewels Red Hatters and Variety Bash set up stalls. Residents could also collect information on services ranging from road trauma support to safer travel apps.

Councillors Serena Williamson, Diane Lloyd, Glenn Dewhurst, David Goode band Emma Zhang attended, along with Hon Matt Keogh MP, Colleen Egan MLA and members of local police.

Tracey said she hoped residents left with a sense that “people do care and we can unite, engage and build a safer community working together.”

The group Gosnells Safe Communities Now continued its activities last weekend’s Mid-Autumn Festival at the Civic Gardens.
