Two Canning schools have been recognised among the best in the country, after a national analysis of Australia’s top 100 public high schools.
Willetton Senior High School and Rossmoyne Senior High School both secured places in Western Australia’s top five government schools. Rossmoyne was ranked second in the state and Willetton came in third.
The rankings were released as part of a nationwide study published by News Corp Australia, which assessed schools against benchmarks including academic results, student attendance and student-to-teacher ratios.
Perth Modern School in Subiaco took out the top spot in WA, holding the 10th position as one of the top 10 public high schools in Australia. Rossmoyne and Willetton joined Shenton College and Applecross Senior High School to round out the state’s top five.
Willetton Senior High School principal Trevor Hunter said the recognition reflected the strength of the school community.
“This acknowledgement, whilst not what we work for specifically, is gladly received by our students, staff and families as testament to the value placed on education within our community and the hard work and commitment which is shown by all to deliver outstanding results for our students,” he said.
Mr Hunter said Willetton’s culture of aspiration, inclusion and strong family partnerships contributed to its success.
“At Willetton, success is not only measured by academic outcomes, but also by the development of confident, capable and compassionate young people prepared for life beyond school,” he said.

The principal added that the school would continue to build on its achievements by maintaining its focus on personal bests and striving for improvement across all areas of study.
National Education Editor Dr Susie O’Brien said the list was designed to give families a clearer picture of how schools perform beyond exam scores.
“This comprehensive list of every state and territory’s top public high schools offers invaluable guidance for Australia’s parents who are weighing up where to send their children,” she said.
“While academic outcomes are undoubtedly a factor, we believe that the true measure of a school’s excellence extends beyond exam results.”
The national list was topped by Sydney’s Conservatorium High School, with schools from New South Wales dominating overall. Perth Modern was the only WA school to make the national top 10.
