Naidoc Round at Armadale Junior Football Club kicked off on late last month under the lights at Gwynne Park with the youth teams giving their all to the game while they showcased Aboriginal heritage and culture.

The new, custom designed uniforms united players.

The junior teams wore custom jerseys which represented Aboriginal heritage.

Designed by Jermaine Miller, the guernseys were inspired by the collective journey of the Armadale Football Club players, staff members, coaches, and community.

“The central element of the guernsey featured a representation of the waterholes and river sources found throughout Perth,” he said.

“Water holds deep significance for Aboriginal people, as it’s a vital source of sustenance.

“Designing this guernsey was particularly meaningful to me as my own football journey began at the Armadale Football Club and now my son is starting his football career at Armadale juniors.”

The year nine team took on Mundijong with the game starting off slowly as the temperature dropped fast.

However, in the second quarter there were some amazing tackles from Sharnzarnee and Leroy.

The team kept a decent lead for the entire game coming away with the win final score of 11 goals and four points to finish on 70, against the opposition’s one goals and four points where they finished on 10.

On Saturday the year fours and fives took to the oval to play against Roleystone and Kwinana.

Josiah Dickerson with played with no fear but all NAIDOC pride as a pocket rocket with some of the team’s best tackles.

Jordan Smith also stood strong kicking four goals and two points. A great game was played by both teams, but they unfortunately just missed the win by one point.

The year sevens took on Hammond Park with the game beginning slowly for Armadale as

A welcome to country and smoking ceremony was performed before the youth games.

Hammond Park came out strong.

However, momentum shifted in the second quarter thanks to J Gilla, N Thomas and Z Harvey who made a big impact around the ground.

Third quarter Beau’s relentless chase on the ball applied serious pressure supported by

tough tackling and contests from Zeke and Lincoln while Z Harvey added to the scoreboard with a well-earned goal.

Josiah Dickerson, Kyan Buck, Jemarlly Gilla and Leroy Williams were all awarded the Hill Family Medal for their football talent for the age groups of year four, five, seven, and nine respectively.
