The votes are in and Kenwick resident Delyse Greygoose was named winner of the City of Gosnells Community Art Award and Exhibition’s Primewest People’s Choice Award.

More than 240 visitors to the exhibition, held last month, voted in the Primewest People’s Choice Award with Mrs Greygoose’s oil painting ‘Don’t look up,’ a clear favourite.

The popular City of Gosnells Community Art Award and Exhibition featured artworks from Western Australian artists in a range of mediums including watercolours, sculpture, pastels, pencils and pens, mixed media, photography, oil, acrylics and new craft categories.

Based on a photograph Mrs Greygoose spotted in the newspapers the painting shows a dog with a magpie swooping close to its head.

Mrs Greygoose said it was a surprise and a shock when she had heard she had won.

“Painting keeps me out of mischief a bit,” she said.

“I do it because I can.”

The Kenwick resident has lived in the area for almost 50 years and has run a painting class at her local church since 1988.

City of Gosnells mayor Olwen Searle congratulated Mrs Greygoose on the award.

“The Primewest People’s Choice Award is a wonderful opportunity for our community members to choose their favourite artwork,” she said.

“Mrs Greygoose’s subject clearly delighted audiences.”
