One local church is committed to serving the community during and after the pandemic. Despite the need for funding and support, C3 Langford church members continue to offer food hampers and support to the most vulnerable.

For about five years, the church went from serving 36 meals to more than 40,000 meals served and delivered more than 1000 hampers.

Although the church was forced to shut its doors to the public four weeks ago, members saw the need to lend a helping hand to people doing it tough.

During this time the church has given out more than 40 food hampers and the number is expected to grow.

Church members have funded these dinners and agencies’ Second Bite, Orange Skye,
Headspace, City of Gosnells and Westfield contribute to the good cause.

The food hampers contain fruit and vegetables, fresh bread, non-perishable items such as rice, pasta, tin foods, home cooked fresh and frozen meals.

Church member and main cook Anita Ross also cooked some of her specials, including lasagne, meat pie and bangers and mash.

Also, toilet paper and other toiletry items are included in the hampers.

C3 Langford church member Lisa Whittle and volunteers have helped prepare food hampers for people in need.

Church member Lisa Whittle said they want the community to know they are not alone.

“There are many individuals in need that either are isolated, have no vehicle or are some of our most vulnerable, for these reasons we have expanded our means of receiving a hamper and have included a delivery option,” she said.

“The church building may be closed but the church is always open, this community has become family and through expanding the area of Langford by reaching out to the surrounding suburbs, we have seen an increase in the need.

“We have a strong and growing sense of family and community, not having to believe to belong.

“We hope we can continue to build relationships with these people and more as these weeks to months continue.”

The church is also catering on individual needs, and can cater for a family of seven as much as for a vegetarian family.

Food hampers are delivered on Tuesdays from 4pm to 5pm.
