Two roads in the City of Armadale will see speed limit changes this month, with one already underway, according to transport agency Main Roads WA.

Main Roads changed the 90km/h speed limit on Brookton Highway prior to Eugene Place after Conifer Road to 80km/h on September 1.

“A review of the speed limit on Brookton Highway was undertaken in April 2025 following a request from the community,” a Main Roads spokesperson said.

“(The review) found that a speed reduction from 90km/h to 80km/h was appropriate for a 4.7-kilometre section of the highway.”

Main Roads said there had been 14 crashes on Brookton Highway in the five years to December 31, 2024 which included one fatal incident, three hospital-treated injuries and three medical-treated injuries.

Effective on September 22, Main Roads said the existing 80km/h speed limit on Gibbs Road from Boronia Road to Taylor Road would be adjusted to 60km/h.

“A review of the speed limit on Gibbs Road was undertaken after a request by the City of Cockburn in December 2024, following ongoing concerns raised by some residents,” the spokesperson said.

In the five years to December 31, 2024, Main Roads said there had been 14 crashes on Gibbs Road in Forrestdale.

Main Roads said the crashes included zero fatalities, one hospital-treated injury and two medical-treated injuries.

“Both the Brookton Highway and Gibbs Road speed limit changes ensure speed limits remain consistent with best practice while addressing safety, efficiency and community expectations,” the spokesperson said.
