Telstra said its employees would be working overtime to get its service back up and running.

Thousands of City of Canning homes and businesses are without landline and internet services after vandals allegedly damaged phone lines early Monday morning.

The perpetrators cut the lines at a hub at the Railway Parade-Wharf Street major junction, which has impacted the internet and home phone services for more than 3000 residents in East Cannington, Queens Park, Welshpool and Bentley.

Telstra area general manager Boyd Brown said the vandals had committed a senseless act of destruction.

“We have reported this matter to police and urge anyone with any information to speak to CrimeStoppers,” he said.

Telstra said employees would work around the clock to restore its services but it would take some time because there had been significant damage.

In response to the incident Telstra has implemented mobile phone diversions for customers, including those with medical alerts.

Mr Brown said customers who were still without service could contact them on 132 200 to lodge a fault report.

“We apologise for any inconvenience for our customers and we’re working as fast as we can to restore services,” he said.

Anyone with information on the incident can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at crimestopperswa.com.au.
