Thinking about giving your garden a makeover?
The City of Gosnells has just made it easier to grow green while saving blue.
Two new colourful signs have popped up outside Amherst Village Community Centre in Southern River, showing residents exactly which native plants can thrive in the local climate, and with less water.
With photos and practical tips, the signs are part of the City’s ongoing push to promote waterwise gardening. They showcase native species that not only brighten up outdoor spaces but also survive Perth’s long, dry summers.
Mayor Terresa Lynes says these signs are more than just decoration; they’re a practical tool to help residents cut down on water use.
“Close to half our water usage goes to our gardens, so if you are looking for ways to cut down household water consumption, look no further than your plants,” she said.
With summer water restrictions and declining rainfall across Perth, choosing plants that don’t need much water is becoming more important than ever.
“As a proud waterwise Council, we all have a role to play when it comes to reducing our water use,” Mayor Lynes added. “Autumn and winter are ideal for planting, so now is the time to establish your waterwise garden before the warm weather returns.”
