A hub for community sporting events will soon be upgraded after the next stage of redevelopments were approved for Morgan Park.

To kick-start the next stage of developments to the well-loved community sporting area, a ground turning event was held on Friday July 25.

The City of Armadale was joined by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti and Member for Armadale and Attorney General Tony Buti for the groundbreaking ceremony.

Ms Saffioti said the Morgan Park upgrades will benefit the local sporting community.

“Morgan Park is a much-loved community space, and these upgrades will ensure it continues to meet the needs of local clubs, families and residents well into the future,” she said.

“Through PlayOn WA, we’re investing in quality sport and recreation infrastructure that supports healthy, active lifestyles and brings communities together.”

Mr Buti said the upgrades to the precinct were overdue and would be welcomed by residents.

“Morgan Park is at the heart of the Armadale community, and it’s fantastic to see this much-loved space getting the upgrades it deserves,” he said.

“This redevelopment will make a real difference for local families, sporting clubs and young people, giving them a safe, inclusive and high-quality space to play, train and connect.

“From grassroots footy to junior athletics, Morgan Park plays a vital role in supporting local sport, and this investment will help make it safer, more functional and more welcoming for everyone.”

The Morgan Park redevelopments are a part of the Western Australian (WA) government’s commitment to broader redevelopment, which includes new lighting and upgraded playing fields for community sporting centres.

The government has invested more than $800,000 in funding and more than $960,000 to revitalise the Armadale sporting precinct.

This next stage of the redevelopment is being delivered through the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund. This aligns with the goals of PlayOn WA, which is the state’s bold new initiative to build sustainable, inclusive, and high-quality sport and recreation infrastructure across WA.

Morgan Park in the Seville Grove suburb has played a key role in supporting local football and athletics clubs, with the much-needed upgrade helping to meet growing demand of the area, while enhancing the safety, functionality, and appeal to park users.

City of Armadale mayor Ruth Butterfield said this new pavilion will include two new function spaces, both with their own kitchen.

Once space will be for club purposes, while the other will be for hireable community use.

She also commended the government for its support in redeveloping the much-loved Morgan Park.

“The existing pavilion was built in the 1970’s and is no longer fit for purpose,” Ms Butterfield said.

“The cost of the new pavilion and associated works will be approximately $5.8 million. The redevelopment is funded with support from the WA Government.

“We thank the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport, and the Minister for the contribution of $809,784 towards the project.

“We are excited to get the project underway and look forward to providing the clubs and residents with a bright, modern facility which will be a focal point for the community.”

This major redevelopment is expected to finish in early 2026.
