The Liberal’s Matt Moran has conceded defeat in the new Federal seat of Bullwinkel, which takes in parts of Armadale and Gosnells, after Labor’s Trish Cook claimed victory.
In a tight race, Mr Moran took it up to Labor, but in the final days of counting Trish Cook won by 51, 256 votes to Matt Moran’s 50, 124 votes.
The victory a great result for the newly appointed candidate Ms Cook who is a local nurse, Mundaring councillor and resident in her electorate for almost 20 years.
Ms Cook said she is looking forward to getting on with the job and wants tax cuts, a freeze on the cost of Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) medicines and lowering the cost of childcare for families in her term.
“I’ve seen firsthand the vital role Medicare plays providing healthcare access and healthcare should depend on your Medicare card, not your credit card,” she said.
Although it was a slim win the Liberal’s Matt Moran gave Trish his best wishes.
“The result in Bullwinkel is now clear, and while it’s not the outcome we had hoped for, I called Trish Cook today to congratulate her,” he said.
Mr Moran said he still holds out hope for a future in politics.
“Candidates and those elected need to understand the concept of rejection”, I will continue to fight for the people of Bullwinkel. I hope to seek elected office again in the future.”
