EcoConnect focuses on enhancing the urban canopy and fostering a more sustainable community.

This Sunday, May 4, the City of Canning will host EcoConnect, a free, family-friendly event that celebrates sustainability and the growth of the city’s urban green canopy.

Taking place at the Civic Centre and Old Town Hall from 8am to 12pm, the event promises to bring together residents, local businesses, community groups, and environmental advocates for a day of education and hands-on activities.

Mayor Patrick Hall said, “EcoConnect is an exciting event that connects community and nature for a sustainable future. It’s a chance to raise awareness of sustainability and to give everyone an opportunity to help create a greener, healthier environment for future generations.”

This event is part of the City’s Urban Forest Strategy, which focuses on enhancing the urban canopy and fostering a more sustainable community.

The day will be filled with engaging activities for all ages. Visitors can learn waterwise gardening tips that help create eco-friendly gardens, and discover ways to maintain low-maintenance spaces that also support local wildlife. The Eco-Marketplace will offer a range of sustainable products, and food trucks will provide delicious treats for everyone to enjoy. For those with a love of art, there will be a tree-themed exhibition, celebrating the beauty and importance of trees in our environment.

The event will also feature a special performance at Poet’s Corner, where local artists Emily Barker and Catrina Aniere OAM will offer their reflections on nature, human connection, and the world around us. Emily’s poetry explores themes of grief, hope, and the human experience, making this performance a unique addition to EcoConnect.

As part of the celebrations, City of Canning residents can claim free trees or plant packs, available while stocks last. The event is not only an opportunity to learn but also a chance to contribute to a lasting environmental impact by helping to grow the city’s green canopy.

EcoConnect offers a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in sustainability to get involved and help build a greener future. Whether you are a gardener, an art lover, or simply looking for ways to make a positive environmental impact, this is an event you won’t want to miss. With free entry and plenty of activities, EcoConnect is set to be a memorable day for the community.
