Armadale Health Service’s Emergency Department Registered Nurse Luis Lim will be busy this ANZAC Day.

At this time of year, Registered Nurse Luis Lim takes on his favourite passion, playing the bugle at ANZAC Day events around Perth.

“It’s not difficult playing the bugle, it’s just a little bit nerve-wracking doing it in front of people at a very solemn moment – like public speaking,” he said.

Luis learned to play the bugle with the Salvation Army and during his first career – as a sonar operator in the navy for 18 years – he played it around the world.

Seeking a career where he didn’t have to travel so much, he retrained as a nurse, attending university from July 2000 to 2003.

Since then, he has played at school and community ANZAC events from Northam to Kalgoorlie to Perth.

He has eight bookings for events in April – a far cry from his day job in Armadale Health Service’s Emergency Department.

And did you know there is more than one version of Reveille – the signal played on a bugle to mark the end of the one minute’s silence or to wake soldiers?

Luis can play several versions as well as The Last Post, Sunset and some American pieces.

Thank you for your service, Luis.
