It is not every day that a group of people gets to celebrate its 600th meeting while dressing up in their favourite superhero outfit.

But the Canning Vale Toastmasters did, and since the Roman Numerals for 600 are DC, members could not miss the opportunity to dress up and celebrate in style with a DC Comics theme.

It is one of 16,000 clubs worldwide and was originally chartered in March 2008. The Canning Vale Toastmasters is a local public speaking club that focuses on communication and leadership development.

President of Canning Vale, Christina Ng, who joined as a member of the club in 2016, explained that the club was more like a family.

“Canning Vale Toastmasters is a community of like minded people who aspire to be leaders and learn leadership skills through public speaking,” she said.

“Communication is a fundamental part of being a great leader, and skills like listening, delegation, negotiation and time management are all taught in the Toastmasters curriculum.”

The event was run internally by members who formed a committee and planned the celebration as part of their leadership training.

“The success of our meetings is credit to our members’ training as confident, professional leaders,” Ms Ng said.

“Everyone pulls together to make the club thrive and our 600th milestone is proof of this.”

Local members of parliament Yaz Mubarakai and Matt Keogh, along with local councillors were among the generous supporters who donated raffle prizes on the night to help with fundraising for the club.

Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped people from diverse backgrounds become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders.

If you would like to build your confidence, improve your communication skills or grow as a leader Canning Vale Toastmasters, meetings are every Tuesday from 6.15pm to 8pm at Last Drop Pub & Brewery, 507 Nicholson Rd., Canning Vale.
