The Carey Baptist College cheerleading team’s hard work paid off earlier this month at the Cheer and Dance National Championships on the Gold Coast.

The team placed in all events they had competed in and even came away with a few first places.

Carey physical education teacher and cheerleading director Amy Hutchison said the results were beyond their expectations.

“During the trip the students competed in five routines,” she said.

“Of the five routines our team goal was to place in the top three in just one of them.

“This would have been an amazing achievement as a coach and for the students however we did not achieve this goal – we smashed it.

“We placed in the top three in all routines with one third, two seconds and two firsts.

“This is beyond incredible on a national stage which included international competitors. I am not sure the Perth competitions will quite match up anymore, the students really did Carey proud.”
