A moving oil painting by art student Casper Green has won the most public votes in the 2025 City of Gosnells Community Art Exhibition and Awards.
Ms Green’s raw and emotional work earned her the Maddington Central People’s Choice Award, along with a $500 prize.
The second-year Edith Cowan University student impressed the public with her self-depiction, which touched on themes of vulnerability and emotional strain.
City of Gosnells Mayor Terresa Lynes congratulated Ms Green on her achievement.
“Ms Green’s oil painting captures her vulnerabilities in a powerful way, which is no doubt why her piece had such an impact on people,” Mayor Lynes said.
“She is a deserving winner of the 2025 Maddington Central People’s Choice Award, and I wish her every success in what promises to be a bright future as an artist.”
Ms Green, who began painting at age four, has exhibited several works over the years as she continues to explore her artistic voice.
Her winning piece, titled ‘Leeches’, was inspired by a song of the same name.
“The song talks about being a people pleaser, and how others take advantage of one’s kindness and empathy,” Ms Green said.
“I tried to capture this feeling with the abstraction of the body, stretching out to please others only to fade away into darkness as they come back for more.”
The annual art awards celebrate creativity and community spirit. This year’s winners can be viewed at gosnells.wa.gov.au.
