Members at the Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre have collectively exercised their way to a national gold medal.
The Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre (AFAC) recently participated in the global ‘Let’s Move’ competition, organised by leading fitness brand Technogym.
The fitness challenge was organised to help spread the importance of movement and exercise to help tackle the global issue of obesity.
During the two-week challenge, AFAC members had to do as much exercise as possible, either in the gym or in a group class, earning ‘moves’ for each activity.
This was tracked against global participating leisure centres, and after earning over 3 million moves, AFAC finished seventh in the world, and was number one in Australia.
In total, the competition had 130 countries and over 1500 facilities participating.
As a result of their final top 10 placement, AFAC were awarded several prizes, which were given to their nominated beneficiary, Cecil Andrews College, on Monday.
AFAC staff were delighted to present their three winning prize packs to Cecil Andrews, a local college who frequently attend and use AFAC. The prizes consisted of a range of sporting equipment, which will now be used in their sport and physical education classes.
Mayor Ruth Butterfield attended the handover of fitness equipment and said she was proud to see the community come together for a worthy fitness challenge.
“Congratulations to all the AFAC community for participating and helping the City of Armadale and AFAC attain seventh in the global rankings,” she said.
“This allows us to support a local college with some new fitness equipment and continue the ripples of health and fitness.
“Looking after your health and wellbeing is important, and we hope that the Let’s Move competition has encouraged many of you to continue or start participating in some form of movement or exercise as part of your day.”
