Visitors to Byford Library will now be greeted by a vibrant new mural as local students have helped bring a colourful community art project to life.
The Byford Library Pathway Mural is an Activate Byford project funded by the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport and Activate Byford itself.
Blank Walls, a street art studio based in Perth and London, was commissioned to deliver the artwork alongside student volunteers.
Spanning approximately 40 square metres along the library’s curved entrance pathway, the mural is transforming what was once a plain concrete surface into an eye-catching celebration of local talent and native flora and fauna.
Central to the project was the involvement of students from Byford Secondary College, supported by Visual Arts Teacher Angela Treasure.
Their creative interpretations of a cockatoo, kookaburra and native flora were translated into the final mural design.
The colour palette was also drawn from the students’ work.
The mural is expected to create a more attractive entrance to the library and showcase the creativity of local young people, who have poured their heart and creative talent into its design.
