
The Kelmscott Bulldogs Football Club hosted the Indigenous round on Saturday on home ground following NAIDOC week.
John Dunn Memorial Park celebrated Indigenous culture with small businesses and markets, a kangaroo sausage sizzle, and live music.
Men’s C4
The Men took on Curtin Uni Wesley in a successful home game match to honour Indigenous culture.
Starting off slowly in the first quarter, the Bulldogs finished on 14 with two points and two goals, while Curtin were up on three goals and four points with 22.
A close game at the end of the second quarter, the Bulldogs finished the first half with 38 points and Curtin finished on 42 points. Both teams had scored six goals each in the first half, but Curtin were up by four points.
The Bulldogs brought it back in the third quarter to finish ahead on 59 compared to Curtin’s 54, kicking another three goals and three points in the third quarter.
At the end of the game, the Bulldogs won 89 to 73 with 14 goals and five points compared to Curtin’s 11 goals and seven points.
Angus Yarren kicked three goals for the club along with captain Kyle Collard, with Noah Soper kicking two, and Tyson Hoare, Callum Collard, Justin Lewis and Jacob Bromfield all kicking one each.
William Walley also celebrated playing 100 games for the Bulldogs after joining the club in 2020, playing more than 300 senior games throughout his football career.
The men are tied second on the ladder with 44 points as they prepare to take on North Fremantle this weekend.
Men’s C4 Reserves
The men’s reserves unfortunately lost to Curtin Uni Wesley on the weekend but worked hard against the team who are second on the ladder, only two points behind first placed.
It was a tough game from the start, with Kelmscott unable to get many touches and finishing the first quarter on zero to 26.
IN the second quarter, the reserves kicked on point, but unfortunately that made Curtin work harder to kick six goals and two points to finish on 64 at half time.
In the final quarter, the Bulldogs kicked two goals and another two points to finish on 15, with Curtin kicking 14 goals and nine points throughout the game to finish on 93.
Both Matthew Green and Jason Green kicked one goal each, with the reserves also taking on North Fremantle this Saturday.
Brett Jones Colts
The Colts had another win this week during their Indigenous round home games against Curtin Uni Wesley.
A very close game after the first quarter with both teams finishing on 13, having scored two goals and one point, before the second quarter led to the Bulldogs breaking off from the pack and getting the lead.
Kelmscott kicked four goals and one point to finish the first half on 38, while Curtin kicked two points to finish on 15.
The start of the second half brought the game closer together again, as the Bulldogs finished on 40 and Curtin finished on 34.
Kelmscott kicked two points in the third quarter to uphold the defense, but Curtin kicked three goals and one point.
In the final stretch of the game, Kelmscott kicked three goals and three points to retain the lead with Curtin kicking two goals and one point.
The final score was 61 to 47 with Tyson Hoare kicking three goals for the Bulldogs, Noah Soper and Israel Bucktin kicking two, and Isaiah Dimer and Ben O’Shaughnessy both kicking one.
The colts are second on the ladder with 44 points, behind tied firsts Fremantle CBC and Trinity Aquinas who are both on 48 points.
The colts are also faced against North Fremantle this Saturday.
Women’s C1
Coming back from their week off, the women returned for round 13 on home ground supercharged and ready for another win.
Against Roleystone, the Kelmscott women had a mighty win as the game ended 72 to 14.
The game started off close with the first quarter finishing with the Bulldogs up by only one point on seven and Roleystone on six.
In the second quarter, Kelmscott picked it up with Roleystone’s score being unchanged and the Bulldogs finishing the first half on 36.
Four goals and two points were kicked in the second quarter, followed by three goals and one point in the third quarter.
Roleystone kicked two points in the third quarter to finish on 8, but the Bulldogs were well ahead on 52.
In the final quarter, Roleystone kicked one goal to finish with two goals and two points, but the Bulldogs finished with 11 goals and six points, kicking three goals and two points in the final quarter.
Hayley McHenry kicked five of the Bulldogs’ goals, while Anna-Shae Michael kicked three and Louise Knitter kicked two.
The women are third on the ladder with 36 points, four points behind Ocean Ridge, taking them on for the final round of the fixtured season on August 9.
This Saturday the women play Kenwick at Mills Park.
All Abilities
The All Abilities had a bye last week but play Curtin Uni Wesley on Saturday for the second last fixtured game of the season.
The team is third on the ladder with 26 points.
