Nominations are now open for the 2025 RSPCA WA Animal Welfare Awards, which celebrate the people and animals making a real difference in the lives of others across Western Australia.
The awards shine a spotlight on everyday heroes who go above and beyond to protect and care for animals. If it’s a courageous rescuer, a devoted volunteer, a therapy pet making people smile, or a young person speaking up for animal welfare, you could nominate them.
RSPCA WA Chair Lynne Bradshaw AM said the awards are a special opportunity to honour those working quietly to improve animal welfare across the State. She said if anyone knows an amazing animal welfare group, a devoted volunteer or a brave animal rescuer, the RSPCA wants to hear their story. While these people and groups don’t do it for recognition, she said it is important to acknowledge their efforts. “The animals themselves would if they could,” she said. “Shining a spotlight on this work also inspires others to treat animals with kindness and respect.”
At last year’s ceremony, 58 recipients were recognised with gold, silver and bronze awards. Among the winners were a miniature horse who visits aged care homes to bring joy to residents, 23 firefighters who rescued pets from house fires, and a woman who had just welcomed her 90th foster animal.
This year’s awards will recognise exceptional efforts through five categories: the Animal Award for an animal that has made a significant impact on their owner or community, the Humane Award for individuals or groups who have shown great courage rescuing animals, the Youth Award for outstanding contributions by someone under 18, the Community Action Award for those working to improve animal welfare in WA, and the Volunteer Award for someone whose volunteer work has made a lasting difference.
Nominations are open to anyone in Western Australia and can be submitted online by visiting rspcawa.org.au/awards. The nomination process is quick and easy, and past winners’ stories are available on the website for inspiration. Recipients will be recognised at a special ceremony on Wednesday 15 October, with nominations closing Friday 5 September.
