More young people across Western Australia will have access to vital mental health support thanks to a $1.35 million funding boost from the State Government.

The funding will help expand the services offered by Kids Helpline, a free and confidential phone and online counselling service for young people aged five to 25.

Run by national provider yourtown, Kids Helpline supported more than 10,000 young people in WA last year, with many reaching out for help outside of business hours.

The service plays a crucial role in supporting young people, particularly in regional and remote areas where access to in-person care can be limited.

Health and Mental Health Minister Meredith Hammat said the service offers a lifeline to those who need help, whenever they need it.

“The Kids Helpline has a long history of providing support to our young people,” she said.

“Allowing children and young adults to reach out at any time of the day or night, either by webchat or phone call, is critical to ensuring mental health support is provided when it’s needed.

“Investing in the mental health and wellbeing of young Western Australians is vital for the future of our State.”

Kids Helpline has operated for over 34 years, responding to more than 8.9 million calls and messages across Australia.
