Southern Hills Christian College has a new principal after a current teacher was nominated for the position.

Paul Beacham had worked at Southern Hills for more than 19 years as a teacher, deputy principal, Head of Student Services and Head of Department.

Over the last nine years Mr Beacham had championed school initiatives including its “Leavers 2 Leaders” initiative which takes Year 11 and 12 students to the Philippines to work with less fortunate communities instead of participating in traditional leavers celebrations.

Mr Beacham said he was proud to have been able to take on the principal role and said he was keen to get on with the job.

“Southern Hills has a reputation in the community for working with students from whichever level they join us,” he said.

“I am keen to further develop our learning programs, extra-curricular activities and the unique approach to service and leadership which permeates our secondary school.”

Mr Beacham took over from Gavin Nancarrow who was principal for two years.
