A local family has resorted to crowd funding to get their son the help he needs overseas.
Roleystone resident Logan McEvoy endured a confronting and unconventional upbringing, which involved years of witnessing domestic violence, a spate of homelessness and the demand to mature much faster than he should have due to his mother being admitted into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic.
The 15-year-old now lives each day with his own issues including managing extreme emotions, mental health issues, post traumatic stress disorder and a minor addiction to marijuana.
Now finding himself at somewhat of a crossroads in his life, Logan and his family have turned to the crowd-funding platform GoFundMe to raise a total of $3000 to allow him to travel to Canggu in Bali to take part in a five-day intensive retreat called Awaken the Warrior.
Hosted by Mitchell Vickridge, a men’s high performance coach, the retreat will explore topics such as love, identity, values, leadership, achievement, sex, money, health, living together and resilience.
Logan’s stepfather Tim Semones said the experience would provide him with the right foundation and a community of mentors who can support him moving forward.
“There are nine spots and there is one spot left and it is pencilled in and they are holding the spot for Logan,” he said.
“I have said to Logan, just keep up the good work and keep doing what you are doing like going to school every day, helping around the house and doing your homework … you just worry about that and I will try and work out the logistics as far as funding it goes.
“Logan is amazing and with the right opportunities and the right mentors, he is going to make a difference in the world and he is not only going to better himself but also pass this onto others.”
Logan will travel and take part in the retreat from October 24 to 30, if they can raise the required amount of money.
