Lovebirds Dennis and Meralyn Bell celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss last week with a dinner together recounting on their many achievements.

The Byford residents wed on April 12, 1969 at a ceremony in Murray Bridge, South Australia, and since then have added to their brood with four children and seven grand children.

Over the past 50 years Mr Bell said the couple have moved house a total of 17 times, built six times and lived in three states. “Life has certainly been interesting,” he said.

“We have had eight jobs in 50 years, had 17 cars and my job in 1969 paid $40 per week with groceries costing $6 per week.”

Mr Bell said the couple had received plenty of well wishes from family and friends and even received letters from Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Premier Mark McGowan, Governor General Kim Beazley and Member for Darling Range Alyssa Hayden.

Dennis and Meralyn Bell got married at Meralyn’s mother’s home in South Australia in 1969.
