Parents of children who attend Thornlie Christian College have raised concerns over the Furley and Warton roads intersection.

They have cited congestion during peak hour specifically during drop-off and pick-up times.

Mother Lisa Rossi described the intersection as a nightmare.

“You have people turning right into Furley and then the other way around trying to get out of Furley onto Warton,” she said.

“There is a lot of congestion, lots of cars going in and out and it isn’t safe for the children.”

Ms Rossi said there were no crosswalks or sets of lights to help ease the traffic.

“The infrastructure of the roads has been dealt with poorly,” she said.

“The school has 900 students and that’s a lot of cars, our main concern is for the kids.”

Member for Southern River Peter Abetz said he was waiting for a response from Minister for Transport Bill Marmion.

He said he was trying to secure funding for an upgrade to the intersection.

“The Furley Road and Warton Road intersection is particularly busy and dangerous especially for the parents and students of Thornlie Christian College and something that requires an urgent upgrade,” he said.

“In addition to the safety concerns the bank-up of traffic also results in delays for other motorists.”

Mr Abetz said he was hopeful his strong advocacy would see the intersection upgrade as an important priority being delivered for the community.
