Southern River College students released their first album called Kulture – Stories by the River, this month.

On September 13 a launch party was held to celebrate their achievement.

Produced and recorded by the students there were 12 songs in total.

Southern River music teacher Craig Wallace-Gibb said it was great to be able to work with students on a project with real music industry relevance.

“They were focused and invested putting in strong efforts to make their compilation album as professional as possible,” he said.

“They produced a great mix of original and cover songs and the Australasian Performing Right Association Limited have been contacted to ensure licensing permissions were obtained for the cover songs.”

The CD was a project for students who were studying for their Certificate III in Music.

Mr Wallace-Gibb said the arts team worked hard to support the students.

He also said the media department was involved with year 11 student Josh Stuart taking video footage of the recording process.

“Overall it has been an extremely successful and enjoyable project and event,” he said.

The students marketed their CD selling many on the night of the concert with all proceeds from the launch party going towards the school’s music program for new equipment and future music workshops.
