Forrestdale based swim school business Seadragonz took out the Business Armadale Examiner Newspapers Business of the Year award on Friday night.

Owner Lari McDonald also accepted the Excellence in Business Award.

She said her tail was wagging after winning the awards.

“We work pretty damned hard at it and my tail’s wagging,” she said.

“That’s just a huge accolade for really setting the business up right, it’s all that hard work being recognised by your peers.”

Ms McDonald said the secret to her success was always staying ahead of the game and ensuring both her staff and customers are happy.

She said teaching children to swim was vitally important.

“It’s critical that parents see that swimming lessons are a life skill,” she said.

“Dancing lessons can fall by the wayside because they’re not critical to life but the need to swim, particularly in Australia, it’s critical.

“Its critical to what we do in terms of water because most of our leisure activity is water based.”
