A homeless man has been arrested after allegedly assaulting two police officers in Byford.

About 4.20pm on yesterday police were called to a Byford residence following reports of a man acting in an aggressive and erratic manner.

Officers attempted to calm the man who then allegedly ran from police before jumping over fences of neighbouring properties and onto the roof of a house before descending through a skylight into the home.

Officers approached the man who then allegedly hit both the officers with a wooden chair.

A male constable received a serious laceration to his face and bruising, which required treatment at Armadale hospital.

A male senior constable received a laceration to his hand.

A 27-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with two counts of assaulting a public officer and criminal damage.

He appeared before the Armadale magistrates court today.
