Labor candidate for Burt Matt Keogh was aiming to woo sporting clubs with the announcement of $160,000 for the Armadale Gymnastics Club and Forrestdale Sporting Association.

Mr Keogh and shadow parliamentary secretary Ed Husic visited the FSA on Saturday to announce $150,000 for them to complete a feasibility study for the expansion of their facilities and services if the Labor government is elected on July 2.

Mr Husic said the association had a strong connection to the community and worked hard to meet the needs of residents.

“The association has developed a working business model, which will ensure a maximum return on any future investment in the FSA’s facilities,” he said.

Mr Keogh said as Forrestdale, Piara Waters, Haynes and Hilbert continued to grow so would the FSA’s role in providing sporting activities for local residents.

“Only with improved club facilities and parking will the association be able to keep up,” he said.

Mr Keogh also visited the Armadale Gymnastics Club on Monday night to announce a $10,000 grant if elected to buy gym and fitness equipment.

The club has bounced back from near extinction last year after the PCYC left the Armadale area.

The new club still has some way to go to have enough proper equipment for the gymnasts to use.

Mr Keogh said he had heard about the amazing work that the group had been doing for several months.
