Cannington could look entirely different to how it is now once the City of Canning's master plan is realised.

The designers of the Canning City Centre Master Plan have received an award for their work creating a visualisation of the area’s future.

Place Laboratory are a Perth-based landscape and urban design firm and were presented with the Urban Design Award for Excellence at the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Award Ceremony for their work on the master plan. Called The Riverine City – Urban Design & Public Realm Master plan, the city has budgeted $70 million over the next 10 years to develop the area nearby where it expects 10,000 homes will be built in the next 15 years.

The plan linked the Cannington train station, Canning City Centre and Canning River for pedestrians and the City of Canning chief executive Arthur Kyron said the development would make Canning one of the most significant strategic metropolitan centres in Perth over the next 20 years.

“Canning is a riverine city that embraces the natural environment and intertwines it in our urban landscape,” he said.

“The master plan is an important part of Canning’s vision to create a welcoming and thriving city.”

The first stage of development at Cecil Avenue West is due to be completed by 2019.
